ArtsPOD

ArtsPOD provides grants to arts and heritage organizations to help them develop their leadership and achieve true capacity. Funding enables groups to work with an experienced facilitator, consultant or mentor, obtain training or attend workshops, and free up senior management's time to enhance organizational effectiveness by:

  • Analysing programs, management, governance, resources, and systems
  • Increasing planning capacity and building planning into ongoing operations
  • Strengthening governance and management practices
  • Developing strategies to address identified needs

April 2009 Update

Over the next few months we'll be taking a look at our long-standing 'Partners in Organizational Development' programs to see how to better align these with the new realities of not for profit organizations.

We'll be consulting with all of our funders as well as some of the organizations that have made use of these grants and we look forward to rolling out renewed 'capacity' (formerly POD) grants programs in the Fall.

Who Can Apply

ArtsPOD is available to arts and heritage organizations that are registered not-for-profit societies or co-operative associations in good standing in the Province of British Columbia. Organizations should:

  • have been in existence for a minimum of 2 years
  • deliver the majority of their services in British Columbia
  • have a minimum of 5 Board members
Professional Associations, Foundations, Universities, Colleges and School Districts are not eligible for ArtsPOD funding.

Application Deadlines

2009: The next grant cycle is anticipated for the Fall.

Information Session

An ArtsPOD information session was held on October 7th in Vancouver. We talked about our new approaches, the current ArtsPOD grant cycle, and answered grant questions.

Unfortunately we are not able to offer information sessions in other areas at this time. However, we are happy to chat with you by phone and answer any questions you may have. We can also email you a copy of the presentation made in Vancouver. Please contact Juliet Correia, Programs Director.

How to Apply

The Program Description and Guidelines document contains more information about ArtsPOD and must be read before submitting an application. Because we have limited staff and many inquiries, we have created some documents to help you explore the ArtsPOD granting information on your own, and assess the eligibility of your organizational development project. This helps us focus on your specific questions, when you are ready to apply.

Note: The following documents refer to the Fall 2008 grant cycle (now closed) and will be updated when a new grant deadline is set.

  • Read the Program Description and Guidelines MSWord | PDF

  • If, after reading this document, you still have questions about eligibility or process, the Frequently Asked Questions page can be very helpful.

  • If your organization is eligible for funding, read the relevant Instructions and Application Form: Organizational Assessment or Intensive Planning Consultancy

  • At this point, any questions you have should be answered by contacting Juliet Correia, Programs Director by phone or email.

  • Complete the relevant application form in full, following the Instructions carefully.

  • Submit your application by the deadline by email to Juliet Correia, Programs Director.

All ArtsPOD grant recipients are required to submit an evaluation report and to provide a copy of the resulting plan.

Spring 2008 grantees and earlier should follow these reporting guidelines

Fall 2008 grantees should complete an evaluation report using this template. Email your report and a copy of the resulting plan to Juliet Correia, Programs Director.

Not able to complete your project by the reporting deadline?
Please contact the Programs Director to discuss a possible extension. Sometimes projects are delayed and we would rather work with you on a new timeline than force you to complete by the deadline and jeopardise the process or quality of the work.
However, remember that you are not eligible to apply for another grant until the current one is completed.

Organizational Assessment: Benchmarking Tool

A first step toward managing rather than experiencing evolution is to gather the group of primary stakeholders and carry out a facilitated organizational assessment process. We have developed a simple benchmarking tool that guides you through an analysis of your programs, management, governance, resources, and systems.

External Review

During 2005 an external review of ArtsPOD was conducted by the Research and Evaluation Unit, Continuing Studies, Simon Fraser University. We are extremely grateful to the many organizations and individuals that participated in the ArtsPOD review and offered their valuable insights into the program. Their input has helped ensure that ArtsPOD will continue to be relevant and responsive to the changing organizational development needs of the arts and heritage sectors in British Columbia.
